US History

This class is a continuation of last semester's US History class.  We will begin this semester with the Revolutionary War and continue through history at a pace decided by the kids. The history textbook that we will be using is Howard Zinn's A Young People's History of the United States.  In general, it can be expected that we will spend two weeks on each chapter.  Students are expected to read at home and the class time is used for discussion, craft projects, games and supplementary materials.

Patriotism

This is a super basic US patriotism class, based in part on the US citizenship test.

Day one: US Flag & other symbols. What does the flag look like? What do the stripes mean? What do the stars mean? What are the 50 states?  US Moto: E Pluribus Unum "one from many", US symbols: Bald Eagle, Bison, US Seal. Make a flag to take home. Listen to "The Pledge of Allegiance" "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "You're a grand Ol' Flag" "The Stars and Stripes Forever"
