Patriotism

This is a super basic US patriotism class, based in part on the US citizenship test.

Day one: US Flag & other symbols. What does the flag look like? What do the stripes mean? What do the stars mean? What are the 50 states?  US Moto: E Pluribus Unum "one from many", US symbols: Bald Eagle, Bison, US Seal. Make a flag to take home. Listen to "The Pledge of Allegiance" "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "You're a grand Ol' Flag" "The Stars and Stripes Forever" 

 

Day two: US geography: Cardinal directions, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi River, Rocky Mountains, Appellation Mountains the 5 Great Lakes. Border countries: Canada & Mexico. Find Washington DC, and TALC on a map. Make a big US map together and color a US map to take home. Listen to “America the Beautiful” and "This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land" 

 

Day three: Important Documents. What is the Declaration of Independence? What is the Constitution? What is the Bill of Rights? What is the First Amendment? What are Amendments? What Amendment would you make? What is the "Rule of Law"? What was the Revolutionary War?  "America" "Yankee Doodle Boy" "The Liberty Song"

 

Day four:  US Government. Learning really basic 3 branches of government President, Vice President & cabinet, Supreme Court, Senators & Congressmen. Have a mock vote. Who was the first president? Who is the president, vice-president, speaker of the house now? See a picture of the White House, Capitol Building and Supreme Court. Write a letter to the president. Listen to more patriotic songs.
